I obtained my first Labrador
in 2002, with the intention of training her up to accompany me on
the foreshore. However her training went well and she turned out to
be a wonderful companion in the shooting field who is still enjoying
her days in the shooting field.
Since then I have trained, competed
in, and won novice field trials with Labradors, Springers and Cockers.
I also have won the West Dartmoor Open springer stake in October 2007.
This qualified me to run my bitch Cherygal Spirit of Fowlersmoon in
the 2008 Springer Spaniel Championship which was held at Conhalt Park
near Andover.

1st place with Olivertash
Dakin at the Berkshire Downs and Chiltern Golden Retriever Club novice
field trial on 7th December 2009.
I now have a small number
of high quality dogs in my kennels. The dogs and bitches I currently
have all been carefully selected on the basis of there pedigree, health
tests and working ability. All of the Labradors I have are both Optigen
and cnm clear.
I currently have a FTCh x FTCh black lab dog available
at stud, and I also have very well breed cockers and springers that
will be available at stud over the coming months. I also may have
the occasional part trained/trained dogs for sale, and I will on occasions
have a litter of pups from proven parents for sale.
Since being made redundant in 2009 I am now splitting my time between
my dogs and working as a Registered Firearms Dealer. I can obtain
to order any new gun required and I also have a number of pre-owned
guns for sale. Please see www.fowlersmoonguns.co.uk
for more information. I am a member of Gloucestershire
Wildfowlers, an Associate member of Morecombe Bay Wildfowlers,
a member of the Oakhampton Woodcock club and in excess of 50 field
trial societys. To go on a fowling trip carrying an old big bore wildfowling
gun is the ultimate sporting experience. It matters not if you pull
the trigger as the foreshore is full of sights and sounds that make
every trip memorable.
The name Fowlersmoon Guns was taken by the title of one of the best
wildfowling books ever written, this book, entitled Fowlers’
Moon, was written in 1955 by Nigel Thornycroft. The author takes you
through the highs and lows of each trip and it captures the real magic
of wildfowling. In the Foreword he writes:
“Yet to these
I hope this book may still give pleasure, not through the second hand
absorption of my little thrills, but by stirring some chord leasing
to personal and private memories – the only sort worth having.
Yes it was on such a night- and presently the book will fall unheeded,
its aim accomplished, while in the fire grows skeins and troops and
companies and the air seems full of music.
There is my hope.”
I think anyone wildfowler
who has read this book will agree he succeeded
